چکیده

With the advances in switching technologies, ER switches are becoming popular since they perform better than EFCI switches. In the transitional period, the EFCI and ER switches may coexist in the same ATM network. Hence the efficiency of various ER schemes should be considered in the mixed EFCI-ER environment, not only in the homogeneous ER environment. In this paper, we describe five ER control mechanisms and compare their performance in the mixed EFCI-ER environment. Simulation results show that these algorithms can interoperate with the EFCI switches. However, the behavior of these ER schemes in the mixed EFCI-ER environment is sometimes different with that in the homogeneous ER environment. These ER schemes are re-evaluated based on their interoperability with EFCI schemes.

Interoperability of EFCI and ERICA ATM switches for ABR services with VS/VD enhancements

To improve network bandwidth utilization, the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) forum has standardized available bit rate (ABR) service which requires a number of parameters to be negotiated during connection setup. MCR is the minimum cell rate guaranteed by the network and can be used to provide an acceptable quality of service for applications. In this study, explicit forward congestion indica...

Interoperability Performance Evaluation of ATM ABR Switches

ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks make use of closed-loop rate-based feedback control in the ABR (Available Bit Rate) service in order to avoid network congestion. ABR mechanisms enable network designers to position node buffering requirements within their networks. End-user applications, such as Internet applications, benefit from the control action of ABR. ABR control attempts to main...

GSPN analysis of ABR in ATM LANs

This paper describes a GSPN model of an ATM LAN exploiting the EFCI ABR service category, and illustrates some numerical results. The GSPN model is constructed adopting a recently proposed approach for the use of GSPNs in the development of performance models of ATM network components. The numerical results quantify the dependence of the performance of the ATM LAN on several system parameters, ...

Tcp/ip Traffic over Atm Networks with Abr Flow and Congestion Control

In this paper, we compare the performance of TCP/IP trafc running on di erent rate based ABR ow control algorithms such as EFCI, ERICA and FMMRA by extensive simulations. The FMMRA algorithm is shown to exhibit the favorable features of least bu er requirement, fair bandwidth allocation to TCP connections, fast and accurate ACR rate adjustment according to the changes of network tra c, and the ...

Evaluation of required queue size to support ABR service

The objective of the ABR service is to provide data transfer via ATM network with the cell loss ratio as small as possible. In order to achieve this goal many traffic control algorithms are discussed, e.g. EFCI, ERICA, CAPC. This paper presents approximation methods to evaluate the upper bound for the queue size in the switch. For this purpose, we assume the worst case of VBR+CBR traffic in the...
